The Challenge
Gonzalez Goodale Architects has been transforming communities through the design of public, institutional and academic projects for over 30 years with an impressive list of design awards in the civic arena. Barbara Pressman Public Relations was tasked to further raise the profile of this already illustrious firm, maximizing its presence in the media.
The Approach
Gonzalez Goodale Architects’ soon-to-be completed projects were opportunities that BPPR used to increase the firm’s public exposure. The initial projects included in the campaign were: Phases 1 and 2 of the Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools, a massive project for the Los Angeles Unified School District; and the Abraham Campus Center for the University of La Verne, a venerable private institution of higher learning in Los Angeles County. BPPR decided to use the project for LAUSD to maximize its presence in the media.
The Results
BPPR was able to secure prime coverage for Gonzalez Goodale Architects for both of these projects. The Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools received more than 40 print and broadcast placements, including two front-page, calendar-section stories in the Los Angeles Times, features in consumer magazines such as Los Angeles Magazine and Good magazine, and cover stories in the top education industry trade magazines. The Abraham Campus Center was featured at length in Architecture Week, AIA Architecture Journal, Pasadena Star and other regional architecture and design magazines and blogs.
The campaign has continued to bring acclaim to the firm, with a cover story on the award-winning Pasadena Water and Power building in the design issue of Arroyo Magazine, numerous features on the firm’s competition-winning prototype school design for the Los Angeles School District, as well as essays on school library design and stories on Palo Verde, an award-winning multi-family development for formerly homeless men.
